Walking into a bridal boutique for the first time can be a little overwhelming. Our questions will help you feel more confident and get the most out of your experience.

We've seen so many brides walk through our doors and be visibly taken aback by what they see, in a good way! They often just stop for a moment and try to take in all the wedding dresses, the silhouettes, the fabrics. All the while wrestling with the emotional weight of the moment. For many, it's all too easy to feel like a deer stuck in the headlights.

The pressure of finding 'the one', typically surrounded by loved ones), can sometimes make this special day feel more stressful than it undoubtedly should. Which is the last thing we want for our brides.

At Brides & Bustles, we believe every bride deserves to feel empowered and supported from the moment they walk through our doors. And we believe one of the best ways to make your experience smoother, more enjoyable, and most importantly - successful! Is to talk to your stylist and be honest from the get-go. By asking us the right questions, we can help you avoid any silly surprises, and ensure you find a wedding dress that suits your personality, budget, and vision for the day.

Top 9 Questions to Ask Before & During Your Bridal Boutique Appointment

Whether you're planning your first bridal appointment, or you’re having a second look, these 9 questions will help you feel confident and walk away feeling succesful.

1. Do I Need an Appointment at a bridal boutique?

Ok, this question should technically come before you visit! But it's such a common one, we had to include it.

99% of bridal boutiques, including ours, will operate by appointment only. We do this to ensure that every bride gets the attention they deserve. Booking ahead means we can dedicate a fitting room and stylist to you.

Appointments also help you plan your wedding timeline, and avoid the disappointment of travelling down to a boutique, only to find they're fully booked that day.

2. What Should I Bring With Me to my appointment?

While you don’t need to arrive ready for a night on the tiles, bringing the right items can make a big difference to your experience. Nude underwear, a strapless bra, and heels with a similar height to those you’ll wear on the day can help you get a better feel for how each dress truly fits and flatters.

We'd also suggest making yourself feel good, beauty-wise. If you wear makeup, do it as you would for an evening out, along with your hair. Nothing over the top, but enough to make you feel good about yourself when you stand in front of the mirror. You'd be amazed how a little eyeliner and a comb through the hair can help you imagine better how a dress will look on the day.

3. What is the Price Range of your Wedding Dresses?

We know you probably hate talking about money, especially when it comes to something as emotional as a wedding dress. But it's so important to be candid early on about what you're willing and able to spend on a bridal gown.

Remember, your dream dress doesn’t have to be your most expensive one. And if you are searching for a wedding dress on a budget, we have an entire floor dedicated to outlet bridal dresses. Where you can pick up gowns for a fraction of their original price.

4. Do You Have Wedding Dresses in My Size?

Sizing can vary widely between designers. Ask what size ranges are available to try on in-store, and whether larger or smaller samples can be clipped, pinned, or ordered in. At Brides & Bustles, and at our plus size bridal boutique, Confetti & Curves, we carry a diverse range of sample sizes because every bride deserves to feel beautiful on their big day.

5. How Long Will It Take for My Dress to Arrive?

If you have a tight wedding timeline, this question is a must. Depending on the brand, some gowns can take up to 6 months to arrive, but typically, it's a lot less, more like 3 months. Time for alterations also has to be factored in and that will depend on the complexity of the job, and availability of your alterations team.

If you're short on time, ask about rush options or consider a dress off-the-rails that can be taken home the same day.

6. What Designers or Styles Do You Specialise In?

Boutiques curate a bridal collection with a specific bride in mind. Ask what designers they stock and what their general style/vibe is. Are their dresses typically boho, classic, or maybe more modern. Getting this info early can help ensure you're both on the same page.

7. Can I Take Photos During the Appointment?

Some boutiques may have policies against taking photos, as designers occasionally have copyright rules in place, or they prefer to keep the experience unplugged. With that in mind its good to ask before snapping away.

We find taking pictures during an appointment is useful, as it can be challenging to remember every style you try on. However, try to manage your phone usage and focus instead of enjoying the moment.

8. How Many Guests Can I Bring?

The majority of brides like to have their nearest and dearest by their side during their bridal appointment. But it's important to ask how many guests you’re allowed to bring.

Most boutiques, including ourselves, recommend keeping your group small - no more than 2 people. This is because having the right guests present can really help the shopping process, and elevate the experience. But too many can overwhelm and confuse. Think carefully about the voices you want around you and who will bring the positivity you'll need.

9. Do You Offer Bridal Accessories?

From veils and headpieces, to shoes and jewellery, it’s worth asking whether boutiques stock bridal accessories as the right accessory can effortlessly complete a look. Plus, trying everything together can help you visualise the full look, and help you feel more like a bride!

Do you have any burning questions of your own you'd like to ask? Feel free to get in touch with us and we'll be happy to answer them for you. You are also welcome to book your appointment online with us, and let our team help you find the wedding dress of your dreams!
