If your wedding is excitingly just around the corner, you’ve probably been refreshing the 10-day forecast every other hour. The last thing you want is rain on your wedding day, but unfortunately it’s simply unavoidable. That's why it’s important that you have a Plan B.
Getting ahead of the game, and preparing for rain on your wedding day will help you relax, and enjoy your special moment, because you’ve already got a back-up plan in place. Note – this is much better than having a breakdown on the morning of your wedding because your ceremony is supposed to be located outside and it’s pouring with rain...!
Whether you are looking for an outdoor country garden occasion, or are already planning to host the events inside, building precautions can certainly take the pain of the drizzle away, a bit. Besides, there is something romantic about rain, and actually it can make your wedding more memorable than you thought possible. Whether you are planning well in advance or adjusting at the last minute, we have some tips for embracing rain on your wedding day.
ACCESSORISE. i.e Bring lots of brollies!
Stock up on some pretty umbrellas and colourful wellies! Supply your guests with a box of brollies (they might not be as prepared as you) and co-ordinate their colours to the theme of your big day. This will also look fab in your wedding photos.
KEEP YOUR GUESTS IN THE LOOP
Your guests will be wondering what to do if the rain comes during your wedding day. Let them know with an “in case of rain” note in your invitations and update your wedding website with all the necessary information. They will appreciate the heads up.
PLAN FOR 100% CHANCE OF RAIN
Whether the forecast says there will be a light drizzle, or a heavy downpour, you should plan your wedding day as if rain is guaranteed. That means going through with your rainy day plan and investing in wedding insurance to give you a safety net in case the forecast takes a turn for the worse. The last thing you’d want on your wedding day is to be stressed because the day cannot go as planned.
WORK WITH YOUR SUPPLIERS
Confirm with your suppliers to see how they work on a rain day. Does the planner have a backup plan? Will your florist need to reconsider their wedding flower ideas? The important thing to know is that you’ve hired a group of professionals – work with them and trust they will deliver a memorable wedding, whatever the weather.
USE RAIN FOR CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY
Here comes the fun part. Rain can produce some of the most atmospheric, romantic shots. The lighting is softer, and an experienced photographer will be able to make you pop in photos. Ask your photographer if they have any ideas to make a rainy shoot fun, sweet and creative. If possible, arrange for them to see the venue in advance to scope out possible locations. Make sure you know what questions to ask your photographer to ensure you get the perfect photos.
WATERPROOF YOUR MAKEUP
Waterproof mascara isn’t only good for happy tears, it’s also good for rainy days too. You can also ask your makeup artist about using a fixing spray once they've finished your look. Wear lip balm too (both for men and women) as lips tend to dry out in cold, windy conditions.
CREATE A WARM ENVIRONMENT
There’s nothing better than cozying up on a rainy day. Serve favourites like hot cocoa and warm cider, and set up heat lamps or fire pits to keep your guests warm and toasty. You can also put together your own DIY hot chocolate bar to entertain guests!
WRAP UP
Just because there’s rain on your wedding day doesn’t mean your dress has to get ruined. Make sure it doesn’t get totally soaked by having a wrap, cardigan or jacket on standby. Even if it’s your leather jacket, it’ll look so cool in all the pictures!
PROTECT YOUR TOES
If you are wearing heels (especially peep-toed), have a second pair of flat shoes or wellies ready to take with you outside. It’ll make walking from location to location in the soft, wet ground easier. If you can't be without your wedding day shoes, bring a pair of Clean Heels with you and stop yourself sinking into the ground.
PACK A WET WEATHER WEDDING KIT
Get a tote bag and fill it with some wet weather essentials in advance, just in case there's rain on your wedding day. You can give it to a bridesmaid to be in charge of, or bring it with you in the wedding car. No one else will notice but it’ll make a lot of difference when it comes to standing outside in the cold and wet!
GET SOAKED
Sometimes the funniest photos when there’s rain on a wedding day, are the photos where the couple dropped the brollies and danced in the rain. Once you’ve got the formalities out of the way, there’s nothing wrong with embracing the wet weather and having fun with it. Just make sure to pack a spare wedding dress!
