How to choose your bridesmaids

Bridesmaids play a massive role in a typical wedding day, so it’s important to select the right individuals. Friends and family members who are prepared to go through this momentous occasion with you, and deserve to have a front-row seat.

How to Choose Your Bridesmaids

What is the best way to choose your bridesmaids? How do you get past the tricky parts? Here are our tips to help you make the right decision!

TAKE YOUR TIME

It’s your decision. Don’t allow yourself to be rushed into anything, and don’t let people pressure you. If you keep getting asked about who's being picked, just tell people you haven’t decided yet. And definitely don’t ask someone just because you feel they've put you on the spot!

Make the right decision now, and it’ll save you a lot of trouble further down the line.

FRIENDS VS FAMILY

If you have a close family, then you've got a ready-made bridal party, and that's one way to make your bridesmaids decision a lot easier. But that doesn't mean you can't include friends too. Or perhaps your future sister-in-law or a friend on your partner’s side. As long as you have a good relationship with them, it can be a really sweet gesture to bring people into your gang from your partner's side. Just don’t feel obligated!

When it comes to friends, consider picking those you’ve had a long-term friendship with.

IGNORE POLITICS

Stay true to what you believe in. You can’t please everyone, and there will always be someone who gets their feelings hurt. But if you have a good reason for not asking someone, all you need to do is communicate that.

FEMALE GROOMSMAN?

You don’t have to stick to tradition. You might decide to have no bridesmaids at all. Or maybe you have a close male friend who you'd love to have with you on the day? Or why not just have flower girls? Do whatever feels right for you. It's your big day after all!
